Coloured lights experimentation of Big Man Brad @ Chesterfield College

 Today, after looking into the practice of photographic 'happennings' (organised photographic subjects) i have conducted a 'happening' of my own using my class mate, Brad, and using the studio in college. I experimented with different coloured filters on the lights (blue, red, yellow) to create different colours of lights reflected onto the object i have used, a ladder, and my human subject, Brad. What was really interesting about this work was that i realised the potential of shadows that had revealed themselves in the photos, i managed to find that by adjusting where the beam of light is shone you can create multiple shadows. For this set of photos i used a Nikon D200 camera, with a slow shutter speed. In some of these photos i have edited them in Photoshop, i used the curves tool to alter the image slightly.



(bottom, center)The light is only from one angle, i used a red filter to create thihs effect. How the red has made Brad's face the same colour is what i am interested in for my project. (top right) i have used two sources of light, blue and red to create this half and half picture, the two colour have mixed to create a slight shade of purple in the centre of the face. (top left) this is photo looking at the effect of shadows, i managed to angle the lights to create a double shadow which was reall amazing to behold.



This photo i concentrated on the coloured light hitting a inaminate object which is the ladder. The shadows that it gives off seems to melt onto the wall.

Photographic 'joiner' @ College, North Block

This is a joiner i made at college. It is of the North block entrance, i took around 27 photos to create this piece; i used various angles and different quantities of zoom to create this almost 'cubist' effect to the work. After uploading the photos off my camera onto the computer, i used photoshop to arrange them into the fianl product. What i really like about this piece is that in the reflection of the glass inside the door, you can see the refleciton of me taking one of the photos. The inspiration behind this piece are the joiners created by David Hockney.

The Chesterfield Shootings (7/12/12)

I decided to take advantage of this time of month and take photos of the Christmas lights around Chez Vegas. In a couple of photos i manged to capture the motion blur of people walking around at the time, this looks really amazing; they look like shadows of people, almost like ghosts. Blue was a recurring theme in the colour of the Christmas lights; the effect of this was a cold, blue light that turned branches of the trees a beautiful frozen look to them. I did a few shots looking down the high street which created a great sense of depth in the photos because of the layering of lights.

Shoot at Ashover: mark II

This photo is off the Ashover graveyard, i used the night time setting on this photo, using the street light on the further right to light the scene.

This is the same shot angle but i used a flash to pick out the gravestones, i think this is effective  coupled with light from the street lamp. 

I had more time to take these photos unlike the last batch of photos i took of Ashover. I walked around Ashover, taking photos of places that interested me through their light depictions and general look about them. As well as the night time settings i have used on my camera to take these photos and the ones before it, i have also used some the other settings on the camera which have each given a rather individual look to the the photo.

Photos of the Mighty Group C

In this photo, one of my class mates, Steff, has stood in the same place but has moved her head each time the light interval is in motion. This creates the effect of multiple heads.

These photos are created using a really slow shutter speed (at about twenty seconds) using a dark studio using intervals of light that flash on and off every 3-5 seconds. It creates the effect of movement and a element of transparency in the photos. I have noticed that if you stand in the same place for the entire shoot, the image of the subject becomes more solid. This is because you are allowing more light to hit in the same place, therefore creating the subjects strength more vivid.

A Journey from my room to the pantry (3/12/12)

I took photos of curious, overlooked parts of my journey from my room to the pantry, and this is the photos i made.

This dent was found on my door frame  coming out of my room. I like how the paint has chipped away.

This is coming through the hall towards the kitchen. It is part of the radiator.

This is a piece of white tack that i found on the wall of the kitchen.

This is a colander found at my destination: the kitchen. It is hung up with the pots and pans.

The Sheffield City Centre & Ashover Shootings (3/12/12)

Today, i went to Sheffield. I decided to take this photo, despite the time of day was noon which does does not link into the dark quality of the project. But i took this photo with the effect of light in mind. This photo has the reflection of natural light upon pavement. The light picks out every contour and almost describes the texture of the floor through reflection, which justifies my reason for this photo.

 Ashover @ The Rattle- There is only one street light in the rattle located up the road from where i live. I find it intriguing that this is the only light on this road, there is a great sense of solitude in this which is really amazing to see the light emerge onto other objects as there is no other light to intrude.

This is the turn-in into the Rattle. The house on the corner is called 'Weaver's Cottage'. It has this light hanging out above the road which illuminates the road which white light, which gives a cold feeling to the surroundings.

The Coney Green Shootings @ Clay Cross (2/12/12)

These are the first photos i have taken for my project. I was experimenting with different ideas; how light reflects onto objects and changes the colour. The night i took these photos it was wet, so the light from the street lights reflected onto the road which changed the colour of the road to a deep yellow/orange. This is the beginning of my ideas. To take these photos i used a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera on a low-light setting to create these photos. The effect of these pictures i find really effective into what i am trying to materialize; the effect of light reflections.

I really like the light of the street lights in this photo. Every thing the lights touches turns orange, even the grass.

  In this photo, i experimented with the use of smoke. As you can see, the smoke has a tint of orange; i find this interesting so i may take this idea further.
